The JOYCE obsidian mine is located in Van, a town in Turkey’s Eastern Anatolia Region. Full production facilities opened in January 2010, and the mine has a monthly production capacity of 2000 tons.
Van has a rich source of obsidian, created by volcanic lava flows thousands of years ago. As a result, the mine is able to produce obsidian blocks, slabs and tiles in a wide range of sizes. In the current production phase, raw obsidian blocks range between 80 and 180 cm in width. Obsidyen sells polished obsidian slabs and tiles to customers worldwide. The company also accepts requests for crafted obsidian, e.g. ornaments and pieces for use in interior design (handrails, staircase spindles, columns, etc.).
